This Pousada is the second one in the Azores. The Pousada Forte de São Sebastião on Terceira Island was originally constructed in 1555 and was later extended in 1698. Its located was chosen to help protect the inhabitants from the many enemies that sailed past the Island. These enemies have included pirates, English buccaneers, French, Dutch and Spanish naval vessels. As a a chosen UNESCO site in 1983, the original structure has been carefully restored and converted into the present day Pousada.
There are twenty-eight rooms and one suite. One room is reserved for non-smokers and another is equipped for disabled guests. It has a restaurant and bar, a swimming pool and a parking area for the convenience of the guests. There is also a conference room. The rooms are all air-conditioned; en-suite bathrooms; equipped with cable TV; Internet connection; telephone; mini-bar and hair dryer. The reception is ready to give guest a warm welcome 24 hours a day and the Airport is approximately 25 kilometres from the Pousada.
From this location guests can chose to enjoy the many varied walks, horse riding, sailing, hunting and scuba diving.
